Eltana’s Bagels

These are my favorite bagels in Seattle: hand-rolled, dense and wood-fired Bagels.  You can buy a dozen, keep them in your freezer, and enjoy them later one at a time. They even give you bags to freeze the bagels in!

I like to have lunch there in a casual and nice ambiance thanks to the friendly staff.  You can choose your favorite kind of bagel (Plain, Sesame, Poppy, Wheat, Cinnamon Raisin, Gluten Free,…), then choose a savory or sweet spread: Date Walnut Cream Cheese, Pomegranate Berry Cream Cheese, Fig Apricot Compote, Almond Butter, Za’atar and Scallion Cream Cheese, Lox Spread, Harissa Hummus, and more. You can also order a garnish sandwich.

People from the East Coast may even say these bagels are good… for the West Coast!

I like the art on the wall: a giant Crossword puzzle by artist Justin Ken Elder. And if you are bored or by yourself, ask for a copy of the crossword of the week.

Little Brother,A Great Spot in Kirkland

Exciting news! With Little Brother, you have now a new cool option for coffee and lunch on the Eastside. They also offer dinner, but I have not tried it yet.

I have been going to Deru Market for months and love them. It is always crowded for lunch, so I was super excited when I learned they opened Little Brother.

There is more space at Little Brother so it is easier to find a table. I like this space because it is really bright. The only con is that it can be really noisy at lunch time. But it is super quiet in the morning (they open at 7am). Because they offer free wi-fi, I am sitting there right now writing this post!

The staff is super nice, attentive, and welcoming.

Need some comfort food? Grab a pastry.

And last but not least, the food is creative and delicious, made with healthy, locally sourced, and seasonal ingredients. Salads, soups, tartines (open sandwiches)… everything is very tasty!

Choukette Eclairs

This new place opened last Summer and is not easy to find! It is located under Pike Market on Western Avenue. You need to walk down the small alley along the newspaper shop and take the stairs next to the Gum Wall. Check the map with the link below.

This bakery is specialized in éclairs and only éclairs. Eclair is a pâte à choux filled with cream. They offer a large variety of flavors but since I am a big fan of hazelnuts, my favorite was Hazelnut Praline.

They are very elegant but also pretty pricey at $5 a piece.
